The
initial consultation will involve four components
· Subjective assessment - This entails taking a history of your present condition. We will need to know the factors that may be
causing or contributing to your symptoms, as well as factors that aggravate and relieve them. Further information will also
be required regarding your previous medical history, medication you may be taking and importantly how your current symptoms
are impacting on your lifestyle, enabling you and the therapist to set realistic goals for your outcome.
· Objective assessment – We will need to carry out a physical
examination of the effected area and possibly the surrounding area also. (We kindly request appropriate clothing to be worn
that will enable us to both visually and physically assess the effected areas). From the physical examination the therapist
will be able to identify the structures involved in your condition/problem.
· Diagnosis – The physiotherapist at this stage will be able
to give you a diagnosis of the condition/problem that you are experiencing, and will give a detailed explanation of this.
· Treatment – Firstly the physiotherapist will discuss the
treatment that they propose and what this would entail. In some cases more than one technique or approach may be appropriate,
in this situation the options will be discussed fully and in this way an informed choice can be made. At this stage we will
be able to give you an outline of the treatment plan, and the amount of input you may require.
